Avenues piling it up

Defending Premier Division champions of the National Lotteries Authority National Football Club Championships Avenues United is piling on the pressure in the 2012 edition.{{more}}

Avenues, which played unbeaten in the competition since 2009, copping consecutive titles in both the league and knockout versions, are on a similar path.

So far for 2012, in their defence of the league crown, Avenues have been clinical, defeating Bequia 8-1; North Leeward and Stingers 6-0 and overcoming Carib Warriors 2-1.

Avenues’ other match saw them drawing 1-1 with a determined BESCO Pastures.

Like Avenues, Pastures are unbeaten, as they have beaten Stingers 2-0, and Carib Warriors 2-1.

Also competing in that group are System 3 and Je Belle.

In the other group, Campdonia Chelsea is also unbeaten with three wins from as many matches.

Apart from Campdonia Chelsea, Prospect, Toni’s Stores, K&R STRIKERS, Parkside Rollers, Layou and Hope International are seeking honours.

The more staccato administered first division of the competition hosts 16 teams.

Avenues B, Hillside Rollers, Sion Hill, Richmond Hill, Richland Park Pride and Joy, Green Hill, Roxdale and Chelsea are lodged in one of the groups.

The other group comprises Dove United, Gunners, Roseans, Volcanoes, Greiggs, DESCO, System 3 and SVG Coastguard.

The national club championships also have an under-17 and an under-13 male competition and a senior female competition. (RT)
