SVG finishes at the back of the pack

St Vincent and the Grenadines were relegated to the sixth spot in the six-team finals of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Men’s tournament, which ended at the Beausejour indoor facility in St Lucia Sunday night.{{more}}

The Vincentians lost all their matches.

First they went under to host St Lucia 3-0 (20-25, 14-25, 27-29), then were beaten by St Kitts also 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 15-25).

In the quarter-finals, St Vincent and the Grenadines lost 3-1 to Antigua and Barbuda. The Vincentians won the first set 25-21, but Antigua and Barbuda redeemed themselves to win the second 25-17, the third 25-22 and finally romped home 25-21.

And, in the play-off for the minor fifth and sixth places, French St Martin outdid St Vincent and the Grenadines 3-1, with scores of 25-20, 25-22, 9-25, 25-21.

In the third place play-off Antigua and Barbuda took the momentum gained from their nervy loss to St Lucia in the semi-final and overcame Dominica three sets to nil, winning 25-20, 25-13 and 25-22.

In the championship match, host St Lucia dumped St Kitts 3-1( 25-22, 25-17, 25-22, 25-19).

St Lucia’s Joseph Clercent was the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, as he scored the most points, was the best spiker and the best server.

The win by St Lucia earns them a berth to the 2013 continental cup in the USA.(RT)
