And Minister of Sports Cecil Mc Kie is encouraging the nation’s sports personalities to adopt the tagline.

McKie siad the ministry intends to get more young people involved in sports, including in its administration.

“We are going to use sports as a vehicle for positive change in our young people here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, because as we have seen on the field of play and administrators, there are opportunities out there for you to develop your sporting skills on the field and as administrators so that you can gain an income by taking up a career where sports is concerned,” McKie said at a recent press briefing.

He further said continued development in the sporting sector would be a key factor if such objective is to be accomplished.

“We also have to develop the facilities and that is why we are moving forward with Phase One of the National Stadium project,” the minister said.

He also said plans are in place for the establishment of a street football pitch — a project that is being undertaken by Guinness.

Team St Vincent and the Grenadines are the 2012 Guinness Street Football champions.

“I’ve received information that an investor has offered to put down a full-size swimming pool here in St Vincent and the Grenadines. That’s another opportunity.

“The cycling folks, they are pursuing the possibility of putting down a track and, of course, through the National Lotteries Authority, they will be constructing an indoor sports facility here.”

He said plans are to have these proposed projects “hopefully” achieved in the short term. (AA)
