The camp, which began on August 20, was designed to introduce children and youths, desirous of learning to swim, to the fundamentals of swimming.

The NOC utilized the services of Dave Farmer, currently in the state as the international expert leading the Olympic Solidarity-sponsored programme, Development of a National Sport Structure for Swimming in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Farmer observed local coaches Niesha Alexander and Rickydeane Alexander, as well as Shirnan Jacobs (a final-year student in Physical Education, specialising in Swimming, in Cuba) as they took the participants through their paces.

The NOC, which sponsors the Grassroots Talent Identification Programme (GTIP) for several associations here, encouraged the holding of academies during the vacation period.

Team Athletics St Vincent and the Grenadines – utilizing the services of Michael Ollivierre and Rawlson Morgan, and Boxing took full advantage of the offer and hosted academies during the vacation.

The NOC would again be facilitating sport academies during the vacation period in December of this year.
