Clinching the singles title was Rafai Bentick, who overpowered Deron Grant in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

The younger and fitter Bentick made Grant no match for his serves and baseline strokes.

In the doubles competition, the pair of Onike Spann and Grant Connell rallied from a set down to dispense with the Huggins duo of Khir and Kevin.

The Huggins’ pair strode to a 0-6 win in the first set, but Spann and Connell drew on their experience which compensated for the restricted mobility, to take the other two sets 6-3, 6-2.

In getting to the championship match, Bentick defeated Kyle De Freitas 6-1, 6-0 in the semi-final, while Grant got past J’rai Joyette-Da Silva, 5-7 6-2, 6-0.

In the doubles semi-finals, number one seeds Rafai Bentick and Kyle De Freitas were ousted by Spann and Connell. Bentick and De Freitas took the first set 6-3, but Spann and Connell surged back to win the other two sets 6-4, 6-3.

Speaking at the closing ceremony last Wednesday afternoon, marketing manager of Star Garage, local agents of Suzuki, Joshua Da Silva expressed his company’s pleasure of being involved in a tournament of that nature.

He confirmed that his company will make the next tournament a bigger affair.

Da Silva told the participants that apart from the local recognition, their photos will be placed on the Suzuki Caribbean website, as well as the regional set-up magazine.

The Grassroot Tennis Club will next host the Karib Cable mixed doubles tournament next month. (RT)
