The new coaches were awarded through the IAAF Coaches Education and Certification System, having been evaluated through the practical and theoretical process.

Four of the 20 coaches were already certified and used the occasion to refresh their knowledge, through facilitators, Rawlson Morgan and Rosmund Griffith.

Among other areas, the course focused on anatomy and physiology, first aid and safety, as well as events in track and field.

Those who are now qualified to teach track and field at the basic level are Vasha Adams, Cleton Burnet, Delonie Sam, Gary Constantine, Texton King, Theon Gordon, Hollis Green, Xavique Cyrus, Rohan Thomas Jr., Zeron Murray, Kenran Daniel, Yurnic Nanton, Kemroy Cupid, Recardo Hill, Kenroy Williams, Ian Sardine and Rodney Sayers.

Constantine ended at the top of the group.

Ten of the coaches are eligible to go on to Level 2, having attained the requirements of both the theory and practical.

The coaches were presented with their certificates on Wednesday at a ceremony at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Brief addresses came from facilitators Morgan and Griffith, while the president of Team Athletics SVG stood in for president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines National Olympic Committee Trevor Bailey.

Bailey had to leave because of a previous engagement.

The next technical course under the NOC umbrella is set for November, with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation. (RT)
