NOC facilitates more training of personnel

Thirty-four persons have been given the mandate of going out into the community and implementing an action plan, after attending a two-day training workshop, August 9 and 10, at the Media Centre at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.{{more}}

The workshop was hosted by the St Vincent and the Grenadines National Olympic Committee, under the Caribbean Coaching Certification Programme (CCCP) and was facilitated by Woodrow Williams and Rosmund Griffith.

The facilitators are both Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committee (CANOC) trained instructors.

Williams previously held the nomenclature of Master Course Co-ordinator, obtained under the aegis of the Organisation of Caribbean Administrators of Sports and Physical Education (OCASPE), while Griffith has certification through the International Coaching Enrichment Programme.

They administered the theoretical sessions, and will now oversee the practical aspects of the course before the coaches’ certification will be conferred.

The workshop sessions, which were not sport-specific, involved physical education teachers, students, coaches, prospective coaches and persons interested in having an introduction to coaching.

There was representation from national associations of taekwondo, football, cricket, rugby, squash, track and field, volleyball, basketball, netball and the soon to be established sport here, rowing .

They were schooled in topics such as: The role of a coach and the coach as a leader; Nutrition rest and Regeneration; Safety; Injury and recovery planning; Sports and Drugs, among others.

Apart from the lectures, participants were required to complete written assignments.

The CCCP, now the property of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), has been under review over the past year, having been in place for 15 years.
