Tennis cream rises at GTC Junior Tournament

The cream of the crop in the 2012 Milo Grassroot Junior Tennis Tournament were last Saturday afternoon presented with their awards, as the five days of competition ended at the Haddon Hotel courts at Murray’s Road.{{more}}

Che Connell was once again the Boys Under-6 winner. Reina Reid won the Girls Under-6, while Kyle Da Silva stood head and shoulders above his opponents in the Boys Under-8, and Demetra Fernandez held on to her Girls Under-8 crown. Akeil De Roche claimed the Boys Under-10 title, while Briana Nash secured the girls’ title in that age group.

Among the more seasoned payers, Gabrielle Benn trumped the Girls Under-12, with Richard Hoyte pouching the Boys Under-14 and Kamara Williams crowning off the Girls Under-14.

The consolation winners were Jair Patrick in the Boys Under-6 and Amelia Huskinson in the girls’ division of that age category.

It was runner-up for Machardo Joseph and Raffina Sardine in the Boys and Girls Under-8, respectively.

Zedante Spann had to be satisfied with the consolation in the Boys Under-10, likewise Tiffany Chapman in the Girls Under-10.

Taking second place in the Girls Under-12 was Shania Williams, while Khamisi Bascombe was the runner-up in the Boys Under-14 and Gabrielle Benn in the Girls Under-14.

The two other awards presented that afternoon saw Raffina Sardine named the most promising female player and Josh Moseley, the most promising male, as seen through the eyes of the tournament’s director, Onike Spann.

Close to 80 budding players pitted their skills in the tournament.

The 2012 edition was the third summer tournament staged by the GTC, and the second sponsored by Milo.

Indications are that Milo, through its local agents, will be around for more tournaments. (RT)
