Vincy teams bag cricket wins in NY

Action in the Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) was in high gear last Sunday, despite overcast weather.{{more}}

The weather had prevented play in most games on Saturday, but on Sunday, Vincentian outfit Cavaliers and Diplomats of Guyana took to Marine Park A.

Batting first, Diplomats reached 100 in 23 overs. Keith Eddie’s 36 was the only score of note.

Bowling for Cavaliers, Timothy Warner took 3 for 26 and former St Vincent and the Grenadines, Windward Islands, and West Indies fast bowler Cameron Cuffy took 2 for 3.

Cavaliers made 102 runs in 20 overs for another win.

Damien Reid scored 56 and Ezekiel Williams hit 20.

Vincentian club Queensbury also won on Sunday, when they engaged Travel Treat at Marine Park B.

Queensbury made 183 for 5. Kenneth Charles scored 40, Michael Ashton 28, while Trendon Reggis and Charles Lee each made 25.

At their turn at the crease, Travel Treat was dismissed for 150, with Zach 80 not out.

Bowling for Queensbury, Muslin Stanford picked up 2 for 16 and Gregory Blair had 2 for 19. Andy Douglas took 2 for 27 and Kenneth Charles 2 for 34.

Sunday’s all-Vincy clash between Imperial and Middlesex went in Middlesex’s favour.

Imperial chose to bat and reached 96 for 9. Bjorn Brown hit 24. Bowling for Middlesex, Andre Kirton snared 5 for 24 and Treldon McMillan 2 for 22.

Middlesex in reply raced to 97 for 1. Abdullah Syed struck 37; Mark Audain was 34 not out and Joseph Ledwridge 22 not out. Middlesex won by nine wickets.

The Middlesex—Cavaliers, Imperial—Diplomats, and Queensbury—Panthers games that were to be played on Saturday are now rescheduled for August 19.

Matches in the league continue on Sunday, when Middlesex face Diplomats at Marine Park B; Imperial play Travel Treat at Marine Park C and Queensbury meet Wanderers at Sea View. (RT)
