Backlash beats Winterset as N. Leeward T/20 begins

Backlash of Rose Bank eeked out a 19-run triumph over Winterset Ball Beaters of Fitz Hughes in last weekend’s lone match, as the 2012 VINLEC North Leeward T/20 Cricket Tournament began in earnest at the Petit Bordel Playing Field.{{more}}

Batting first, Backlash was dismissed for 98 off 16.1 overs. Nolan Delpesche contributed 2, to be Backlash’s lead batsman.

Bowling for Winterset Ball Beaters, Kesroy De Bique took 3 for 13; Fitzmore Edwards had 2 for 14 and Kenrick Westfield 2 for 28.

In response, Winterset Ball Beaters could only reach 79 off 12.5 overs. Kenvil Samuel topscored with 27 and Festus Murray made 23.

Ronique LaBorde took 3 for 0 and Shammon Hooper had 3 for 15, to see Backlash get off the mark.

Eleven teams are participating in this year’s tournament and are divided into two zones.

Zone A comprises Troumaca United, Police, Backlash, Winterset Ball Beaters and Peto Stars, while stashed in Zone B are Future Legends, Troumaca Starlight, Ruddy’s Electrical, Ajuba, Somerset and Sharps United.

The defending champion is Troumaca United.
