Thomas Saunders Girls have last laugh

There was no dispute in determining the female champions of the 2012 National Lotteries Authority Inter Secondary Schools’ Track and Field Championships, as the Thomas Saunders Secondary was the clear winner.{{more}}

After suffering the indignity of having the title, which was erroneously given to them at the 2011 championships, stripped, there was no mistake this time around, as the TSSS distanced the second place school, the St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, by 67.5 points. TSSS totalled 242 points to the SJCM’s 174.5 points.

Last year’s eventual winner, the Bethel High School, was relegated to the third spot, as they were only able to put together 170.33 points.

Docking it fourth was the ever improving Union Island Secondary with 145 points, and rounding off the top five was the Central Leeward Secondary with 130 points.

The win by the TSSS in the Female Division was their first in that gender for the mixed school, which began operation in 2005.

The TSSS won back to back titles in the Male Division in 2010 and 2011.

It was also the Thomas Saunders Secondary School which swept the individual awards.

Shaiffiqua Maloney pouched the Under-14 title, as she contributed 45 points to her school’s efforts.

Kerina Hooper took the Under-17 with her 45 points.

Nicky Ann Stephens, the 2011 Team Athletics SVG Athlete of the Year, was the Under-21 champion.

The lanky Stephens registered 57 points. Stephens also collected the Victrix Ludorum award. (RT)
