Triple Treat

The Arnos Vale Playing Field will light up for three consecutive days of Track and Field action, from this Wednesday to Friday.{{more}}

First off is the National Lotteries Authority Inter Primary Schools’ Meet, where 52 events are down for decision on Wednesday.

The Kingstown Preparatory School, which won last year’s competition, will be looking to retain the title.

The marquee event is Thursday’s Inter Secondary School Track and Field Championships, which is also sponsored by the National Lotteries Authority. Fifty-six events are carded for the day’s proceedings.

An added feature of Thursday’s Track and Field Meet is the staging of four 60 metre Hurdles finals in the Intermediate and Senior Divisions, for both males and females.

Many eyes will be on Roberto Boyd, a 15-year-old student of the Bishop’s College Kingstown, who blazed the 200 m intermediate male heats last Thursday, as he clocked under 23 seconds.

Looking to complete the hat trick are the Thomas Saunders Secondary and the Bethel High School, which won the Male and Female titles respectively in 2010 and repeated the feat last year.

However, persons close to the championships expect one of the keenest contests in many years, as several of the lesser known schools are beginning to come into their own.

The triple treat should be completed on Friday, with the staging of the Inter Faculty Championships among the St Vincent Community College, the St Vincent and Teachers College, the School of Nursing and the St Vincent Technical College. (RT)
