The preliminary round of the National Lotteries Authority Neil Williams T/20 Cricket Competition was completed last weekend, with the last entrant, Spartans, making it into the quarter final stage, having recorded three wins by the default route.{{more}}

Spartans latest win came on Saturday, when Bequia failed to show up.

Spartans, however, lost their two other matches on the weekend to Owia Stars and Police Two.

Owia Stars also condemned Spartans to a nervy three run defeat.

Owia batted and posted 151 for 6 from their 20 overs. Shem Browne struck 57 and his younger brother Dean Browne contributed 44. Krishna Da Silva took 2 for 26, bowling for Spartans.

Spartans got near but not near enough as they were strangled to 148 for 4 from their 20 overs.

Joey Welcome constructed 66 not out and the ever green Dawnley Joseph, 22, but their efforts could not tow their team over the line.

Police Two was severe on Spartans, beating them by 118 runs.

Batting first, Police Two posted 195 for 5 from their 20 overs. Elron Lewis crafted 78 not out.

Spartans’s response stopped at 77. Joey Welcome again topscored with 25.

Police Two’s Kenroy Martin led the bowling charge with 3 for 4, Mohammed Lavia took 3 for 32, Elmore Alexander, 2 for 6, and Rolando Wright had 2 for 25.

Police Two was also in winner’s row against Eat Rite Saints.

Police Two reached 187. Maxian Richardson posted 52, Salvan Browne, 29, Rolando Wright, 27, and Elron Lewis, 21.

Bowling for Saints, Isaac Haywood grabbed 3 for 28; Sylvannus Morgan took 2 for 21, Kentish Phillips, 2 for 24, and Ray Charles 2 for 33.

Sunil Ambris and Sylvannus Morgan both contributed 43, as Saints reached 153 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Rolando Wright was the main wicket taker for Police Two as he snared 3 for 18, Elmore Alexander had 2 for 17, and Kenroy Martin, 2 for 43.

The other match on the weekend saw Bequia taking care of Owia Stars by four wickets.

Owia Stars managed 110. Razine Browne scored 28, and Jent Lavia, 27. Allan Foyle bagged 4 for 33, and Shirlon Pompey, 2 for 37, bowling for Bequia.

Verden Baptiste, 20 not out, and Shirlon Pompey, 20, as Bequia reached 111 for 6.

Othneil Baptiste, bowling for Owia, had 2 for 22. (RT)
