Basketballers get a go at the hoops


Basketballers have at last a chance to show off their skills, as the National Lotteries Authority Club Tournament has finally got off the mark.{{more}}

The long-awaited tournament bounced off last Sunday evening at the New Montrose hard court.

Basketball fans who turned up to the venue heard brief addresses from Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports Elvis Charles and First Vice President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation Sonja Lewis, who stood in for President Clephas Glynn.

Seven of the ten teams which have registered to participate in the tournament showed up for the March Past.

The adjudicators thought it was KFC Calliaqua United to be the Best Dressed Team on show.

In the exhibition game which followed the brief opening ceremony, KFC Calliaqua United defeated Mavericks in a close encounter, 74-71.

Top scorers for KFC Calliaqua United were Ishama Mc Cree with 28 points and Allister Jackson who contributed 15 points.

For Mavericks, Dwayne Oliver scored 23 points and Junior Peters recorded 14 points.

The other teams in the tournament are Eagles One and Eagles Two, Cam- Park United, Advent Ballers, Hairoun Hardcore, Thomas Saunders- Intermediate Secondary Combined, Playerz and Bequia Blazers.

Organizers are hopeful that some other teams will register before the tournament begins in earnest this Friday. (RT)
