Notable absentees are last year’s Division One champions, RP Ballers, second place, Maple club and regular outfit, CC’s Crystals.

With the fall off in the number of participating teams, eight units have registered for the 2012 edition.

The participating teams are Calliaqua United, Ean Block Making Fully Loaded One and Two, Clinchers, New Era Pepper Stars, Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem, Stubbs and Yanja Young Strugglers.

However, only five of the registered teams were present at last Saturday’s Opening Ceremony.

It was Fully Loaded who took the Best Banner Award and New Era Pepper Stars, the Best Dressed Award.

The Opening Ceremony was addressed by President of CADO Foster Hannibald, newly installed President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Dellarice Duncan, Director of Physical Education and Sports Nelson Hillocks, Minister of National Mobilisation Frederick Stephenson and new Minister of Health and Area Representative for East St George Clayton Burgin.

Duncan, in her maiden speech at a Netball function since her elevation to the presidency, issued a challenge to the young netballers to assist in getting the sport back to the top.

Stephenson and Hillocks chided the players for their tardiness in getting to the venue on time.

The Opening Ceremony began more than an hour after schedule.

In doing a double take, the prizes and trophies won in last year’s competition were also presented.

Matches in this year’s competition will be played on weekdays from 5:00 p.m. and on weekends from 4:30 pm.
