With this achieved, Cadogan said that by February 2013, there could be the first ever Inter Schools Swimming Championships.

The local Swimming boss sees the opening of the Shrewsbury pool facility as pivotal towards the advancement of the sport in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

In partly getting to the point of fulfilling their objective, Cadogan said that soon there will be a schools’ Saturday morning programme, which will be carried out at the Shrewsbury facility and will target students from the Windward side of mainland St Vincent.

Cadogan said the Windward coast, because of the sometimes rough Atlantic waters, does not allow persons on that side of the island to enjoy a good swim.

Confident of positive results, Cadogan told SEARCHLIGHT, “We are using the Grenada model to get our programme here going.

“We are also looking at the schools on the Leeward side, but instead the coaches will travel to that side and teach the students the proper techniques of swimming, using the beaches there, as they are generally calm,” he added.

Also on the plate of the SVGASA, is the getting persons with disabilities involved in swimming, as according to Cadogan, “The water is known for good recovery and therapy.”(RT)
