Will Godfrey Harry seek a second term?

Will Godfrey Harry contest the post of President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association (SVGNA) when elections are called on Thursday, February 2, at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School?{{more}}

Harry, at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony of the Firms and Industrial Netball Competition, last November 30, at the Kingstown Netball Center, said he was only serving one term.

When contacted by SEARCHLIGHT last Tuesday evening to ascertain if he had reconsidered his decision, Harry could not give a definitive response as to whether or not he was sticking to his word.

He, however, acknowledged that he may be nominated by some of the affiliates.

In 2006, following the St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ return from the Commonwealth Games in Australia, Harry, who was the coach of the Netball team, announced his decision to quit.

But in 2010, Harry once again took up the mantle of Head Coach of this country’s team to the American Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) Qualifiers in St. Lucia.

Harry’s elevation to the top Netball post came at the 2010 elections, when he succeeded Doris Mc Intosh, thus creating history as the first male to head the modern local governing Netball organisation.

A release from the SVGNA earlier this week instructed all teams and clubs to collect their Minutes and Nomination Forms for the meeting from former president Gloria Ballantyne at Society of and for the Blind.

The release further stated that the Nomination Forms should be returned to the Secretary of the Association, Gailene Gordon, by this Saturday, January 28.

Apart from elections, the February 2 Annual General Meeting, which is set to begin at 5:00 p.m., will hear the President’s Report and a Financial Report of the SVGNA.

Harry was elected unopposed when the process was held on Monday, February 12, 2010, also at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School.

Also elected on that day was First Vice President Anthony Jack.

Jack, like Harry, at the Closing Ceremony of the South East Development Inc Inter Village Netball Competition in December, made it public he would not be vyeing for re-election.

Thelma Foster, a former Games Secretary, held the post of Second Vice President for the past two years.

Jacintha Ballantyne served as Treasurer, with Gailene Gordon, the association’s General Secretary.

The outgoing Games Secretary is Cheryl Alexander, with Diane Questelles, the Public Relations Officer.

Lafern Millington and Richard Cato served as Committee Members. (RT)
