Among the upcoming events in which St Vincent and the Grenadines will have participation are the OECS Invitational in St. Kitts and Nevis, the Trinidad and Tobago Nationals, the Junior Carifta Games in Bermuda over the Easter weekend, as well as Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Juniors in El Salvador.

Also carded for this country’s participation are the North American, Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Under-20 Championships set for Mexico, the World Juniors in Barcelona, Spain, the World Indoors in Istanbul, Turkey and the London Olympics.

Hence, the locally based athletes are given every opportunity to hone their skills with regular training sessions and competitions among themselves.

As part of the preparations, the local governing body for the sport last Saturday put on a Throws Classic at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.

This followed a four-day training camp held in December, in which the promising athletes were kept in shape, with the festive Christmas season imminent.

At TASVG’s Awards and Presentation Ceremony, President Keith Joseph hinted at a shifting focus to field events, granted the absence of a track and any facility of permanence, in addition to the low returns from athletes competing in track events.

Apart from the overseas engagements, many local athletes are preparing for their respective schools’ inter -house meets, which lead up to the annual Inter School Track and Field Championships. (RT)
