Godfrey Harry seeking answers from TASVG

Physical Education teacher at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School and Coach of the X-Ceed Sports Club, Godfrey “Fuzzy” Harry is not pleased with some of the awards presented{{more}} at Team Athletics SVG’s Awards Ceremony held last Saturday at Frenches House.

Among Harry’s concerns is the award of the Junior Athlete of the Year, which was won by Keron Arthur.

Harry, in a letter addressed to President of TASVG, Keith Joseph, wrote: “… the award given to the Junior Male of the year, [was not given to] Parris who broke three records at interschool and was the intermediate Boys Champion at Thomas Saunders and fourth at the Carifta Games and a member of the Penn Relay team that won a medal and a place in history….”

Harry is also taking issue with the citation read about Coach of the Year Michael “Lord Have Mercy” Ollivierre.

“I also note that Michael Ollivierre has been credited with athletes’ achievements, while they were still working with me,” Harry wrote.

At last Saturday’s Awards Ceremony, Harry was visibly upset, when Ollivierre was announced as the Coach of the Year.

Harry’s letter further asked that certain parts of the citation of Ollivierre be retracted.

“You all know that Ollivierre was never a member of the Thomas Saunders School coaching staff for interschool, he was only asked to assist with the preparation of the Penn team. You noted in his achievements that he took the Thomas Saunders School to Penn Relays,” Harry wrote.

On the issue of the Club of the Year Award, which was taken by the X-Cel organisation, of which the Games Secretary of TASVG Rawlson Morgan is a leading player, Harry did not approve of the decision.

“Don’t you think the achievements of Thomas Saunders for the 2011 season outshines all other sporting organizations for the period in review, taking into account also that Kerina Hooper, Sarafina Myers and Nicky- Ann Stephens are all students of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School?”, Harry questioned.

Morgan, Cornel Cambridge and Rosmund Griffith made up the committee which determined the awards.

In concluding his letter, Harry wrote: “I am making a call again for the association to have the long awaited AGM and set their house in order before the 2012 Olympics. You are running on borrowed time. Your mandate was 4 years it is overdue.”

When SEARCHLIGHT contacted Joseph last Wednesday, he acknowledged receipt of the letter.

Joseph told SEARCHLIGHT that when his Executive next meets, Harry ‘s letter will be discussed.(RT)
