Rutland Vale was pushed by Texeira Road Stinging Nettles, but prevailed 41-39 in a closely contested final.

But organizers had their bubbles burst when Cowdrey Village did not show up for their Under-16 meeting with Texeira Road Stinging Nettles, thus handing the latter the title.

In the awards ceremony which followed, Buccament Bay finished third and was also awarded the Most Disciplined Team title in the Senior Division. That division’s Best Defensive Player was Exsavia Patterson of Texeira Road. The experienced Zipporah Millington of Buccament Bay copped the award of Best Mid Court Player, and former national player Joanna Christopher of Rutland Vale, the Best Shooter.

Another Christopher, Lemus Christopher of Rutland Vale, was voted as the division’s Most Valuable Male Player.

Three members of the national training squad, all from Texeira Road, took the awards in the Under-16 Division.

Corena Welcome was the Best Defensive Player, with Sharien Samuel named the Best Mid Court Player and Danielle Patterson, who was the top Goal Shooter in the just concluded Secondary Schools’ Competition, was voted the Best Shooter.

With two males allowed on each team, Rutland Vale Two’s Emorl Lyscott won the Most Valuable Male Player in the Under-16 Division.

The Layou Inter Village Netball Competition was returning for the first time since 2003. (RT)
