Still no word on George

There is still no definitive word as to the status of national footballer Emerald “Monkey” George, who did not show up for breakfast with his team mates at the La Quinta Hotel in Miami, USA, last Wednesday morning.{{more}}

George and the other members of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines senior men’s team were en route to Belize for their CONCACAF Group E World Cup Qualifier, which took place last Friday, against Belize.

George, a midfielder, had checked in the previous night with the entire team, but allegedly left the hotel without informing the team’s management, and without the knowledge of his other roommates.

It is believed that George may have defected.

The team went on to Belize on Wednesday, minus George, and came away with a 1-1 tie.

President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation Venold Coombs has indicated that his organisation is awaiting a report from the team’s management, before any statement is made.

Technical Director and Head Coach Colwyn Rowe, who was also the head of delegation on the Belize trip, speaking on the matter last Wednesday, said that it was one of those unfortunate incidents which life serves up at times, and one you just have to live with.
