On Monday, October 31, “Gabby” the Garbage Bin, the CWSA Mascot, was on hand to introduce the children of Vinsave to the new “Bin it” sign at the Grassroot Tennis Club.

The design, which depicts places of interest here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is mounted on the Grassroot Tennis Club fence, located at Murray’s Road.

The sign which reads,” Keep SVG Clean, Just Bin It!” also includes an arrow which points down to a garbage bin placed in the vicinity of the club’s greenery.

In making his presentation, Gabby reminded the children of the natural beauty of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the need for them to keep it clean by putting litter in the garbage… “Just bin it!”

The children, along with the mascot, were then engaged in a question and answer session, all with the positive reminder to bin their garbage.

Headman at the GTC Grant Connell said he strongly believes that the message of keeping SVG clean needs to be taught at even the stage of the pre-schools, so as to sustain the move to keep St. Vincent and the Grenadines “clean and green”.

Connell stated that the GTC sees this as a very important part of helping teach children to become responsible citizens, and holds hope that the Ministry of Tourism will replicate the new sign all over the country and in schools and also strategically place garbage bins under the signs.

He revealed that another “Keep SVG Clean, Just Bin It!” sign, will soon be erected, so that persons leaving Kingstown can see it.

Connell said this latest initiative is another way in which the Grassroot Tennis Club is working in tandem with the community, outside the ambits of Tennis. (RT)
