The 2011 edition shot off last Sunday evening with a brief ceremony at the Keartons Hard Court, as the Barrouallie Sports Association twinned the start of the Netball competition with the conclusion of the Inter Village Football Competition.

The tournament will be played in two divisions, Under-16 and seniors.

Some of the participating teams were present last Sunday, and were part of the March Past and the Net-O-Rama which followed.

Taking the first set of honours was Topsidaz, which was declared the Best Dressed Team on show.

Glebe Hill won the Under-16 Net-O-Rama and Star Girls, the senior segment, as the teams also had to compete with the intermittent showers.

Registered in the Under-16 Division are Glebe Hill United Youths, Hot Steppers, Spotlight Girls, and Bottle and Glass Young Stars.

Among those in the Senior Division are Topsidaz, defending champions Valley Netters, Combine Girls, Unique Ballers, Glebe United and Star Girls.

Organisers, however, indicated that they expect that a few more teams will register during the course of this week.

Chairman of the Barrouallie Sports Association Lorson Lewis, speaking at the opening ceremony, said he was glad that his organisation was able to land a deal with Western Union, given the tough economic times.

Western Union previously sponsored the Masters Division of the Football Competition, which did not materialise this year, because insufficient teams showed interest.(RT)
