Making the first serve was Bertille “Silky” Da Silva, one of the two brothers, whose corporate entity, Star Garage, is sponsoring the tournament, which runs for the next two weeks.

A beaming Silky Da Silva told SEARCHLIGHT that his company is happy to be part of the inaugural tournament, at a venue which they own.

“I am happy to be part of the sponsoring of the tournament and I am encouraging persons to get involved in sports, especially Tennis, as it keeps you away from diseases and other health problems,” Silky said, adding that he prefers to be called by his alias.

He was also pleased that persons can play in a tournament of this nature, free of cost.

Over thirty persons have registered in the tournament which has an Open Men’s Singles and Men’s Over 50 Doubles.

In the main draw of the Men’s Singles, Agostini Soleyn, Duane Bailey, Rhys Daniel, Darron Grant, Yannick Grant and James Bascombe are placed in Group One.

In Group Two are Kurtley Jack, Agyei Masters, Grant Connell, Richard Ackcayli, Steven Veira and Michael Layne.

Kyle Albert, Wally McKie, Trevor Sam, Chad Laborde, Rafai Bentick and Ernest Lavia are placed in Group Three, with Group Four comprising, Khir Huggins, Justin John, Mark Charles, Brandon Benn, John Bascombe and Charles Findlay.

Matches will be played daily at the competition venue, which is the home of the Grassroot Tennis Club.

The Da Silvas Classic is a prelude to the Tennis for Hope tournament, which is set to begin at the end of this month.(RT)
