Masters Cricket enjoys good weekend

The weather held good and gave the SVG Masters Cricket Competition a full complement of eight matches last weekend.{{more}}

CK Greaves Arnos Vale recorded their second win when they beat Stubbs by 77 runs at Arnos Vale Two on Saturday.

Arnos Vale posted 156 for 5 off 20 overs. McNeil Morgan was again their batting maestro with 88, and Ted Roberts struck 24. Theophilus Wallace took 2 for 14, and Leon Samuel, 2 for 36, bowling for Stubbs, dismissed for 79.

Livingston John was the topscorer with 21 as Pat Warner, 4 for 18, and Isaac Quammie, 4 for 24, shared the wickets.

Also on Saturday, North Leeward Masters Combined defeated newcomers Henny Penny Masters by seven wickets at Buccament.

Henny Penny made 62 all out. Reginald Jeffrey grabbed 3 for 5, with William Edwards and Conroy Ryan picking up two wickets apiece. North Leeward Combined responded with 64 for 3. Winston Skinner led the way with 30.

On Sunday, at Buccament, Rudy’s Electrical Barrouallie silenced Dasent Cottage by nine wickets. Dasent Cottage made 29 all out, with Samuel Byam taking 3 for no run, and Ian Allen, 2 for 4. Barrouallie made light work of the reply, with 31 for 1.

Also at Buccament on Sunday, Log Enterprises Kingstown defeated Premier Distributors Robertson Surveying Richards Masters by 41 runs.

Kingstown batted first and reached 123 for 7 from their 20 overs. Brian Alexander topscored with 38. Nessan Walker, Carol Primus and Kenrick Whyttle, all took two wickets each.

Richards Masters’ innings got to 82 all out. Nessan Walker struck 23, and Kenrick Whyttle, 22. Bowling for Kingstown, Joseph Medford snared 3 for 19, and Hollis John, 2 for 8.

At the Grammar School Playing Field, defending champions RSVG Police Masters defeated Joyette’s Auto Slater Development Pastures Masters by 66 runs.

Jeffrey Laborde, 88, Elvis Browne, 38, and Gosnel Cupid combined to see the law men to 201 for 9 off 20 overs. Winston Peters picked up 3 for 21. Frederick Trimmingham and Ezekiel Trimmingham both had two wickets each. Pastures replied with 135 all out. Frederick Trimmingham made a topscore of 39.

Dwayne McKenzie and Elgin Richards had two wickets each to their names.

At Arnos Vale Two on Sunday, St.Vincent Cooperative Bank P’tani rebounded from their previous loss to see off defeated Bequia by 95 runs.

Batting first, P’tani scored 163 for 8 from their 20 overs. Jerome Samuel stroked 55, and Cassius Welcome, 24. Bowling for Bequia, Lionel Lewis took 3 for 12, and Jefferson Richards had 2 for 29.

Burton Forde made 27, as Bequia was dismissed for 68. Cassius Welcome picked up 3 for 9, and Jerome Samuel, 3 for 12.

Also at Arnos Vale Two, Sion Hill powered past Computec Belfongo by 25 runs.

Colbert Sutherland hit 91, and Augustine Victory, 23, as Sion Hill mounted 193 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Curtis King had bowling figures of 3 for 33, and Daniel McMillan, 2 for 29.

Belfongo got to 166 for 6 from their 20 overs. Curtis King hit 51, Jocimac Browne and Junior Bacchus, 22, in a losing effort. Cecil Charles, Augustine Victory and Gary Rodriguez had a pair of wickets each.

And, at London, the home team recorded a 34-run win over La Croix, with 108 for 5 off 20 overs. Cornelius Nero was the main scorer with 27. La Croix 74 all out, with Elmondo Shoy making 36. Selwyn Lavia was London’s most successful bowler, with 3 for 13. (RT)
