Imperial falters in BCL Knock Out T/20 Finals

Vincentian club Imperial faltered last Sunday against Jinnah in the finals of the Knock Out Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL).{{more}}

Batting first at Marine Park C, Jinnah made 167 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Jahanzeb Alam scored 75 from 37 balls. In one over he took 20 runs off Byron Mars, and in another over, he took 15 runs from Colville Browne.

Farrukh Saleem scored 31 not out. Arthur Cains took 3 for 15.

Imperial in their run chase only got to 72 all out from 12 overs. Spinner Asim Pervaiz, the eventual Man of the Match, had figures of 4 for 4. Jimil Shah finished with 2 for 27, as Jinnah won by 95 runs.

Imperial got to the final with a seven wicket win over Grenada the previous day.

Grenada posted 143 for 8 from their quota of 20 overs. Gregory Anthony hit 91, which included 8 fours and 3 sixes.

Orlando Mofford, 3 for 24, and Kester Sylvester, 2 for 29, were Imperial’s most successful bowlers.

In reply, Imperial rushed to 145 for 3 from 17 overs. Gregory Nelson, 66 not out, which included 5 sixes, and Jason Williams struck 27.

Kelly Payne, 2 for 13, was the Grenadians’ most successful bowler.

Another Vincentian outfit, Middlesex, failed to make it an all Vincy final, as they lost to Jinnah in the other semi final.

Jinnah scored 149 for 9. Treldon McMillan, 3 for 21, Mark Audain, 2 for 27, and Selwyn Caine, 2 for 29, bowling for Middlesex.

Dominic Audain was Middlesex’s topscorer with 23, as his side folded for 122 to lose by 27 runs.

Punjab won the league title of the regular season.

The BCL will this Friday, October 14, stage its 75th Anniversary with a Dinner and Dance at the Glen Terrace Ballroom, located at 5313 Avenue N and East 53rd Street in Brooklyn.

At this function, there will be the presentation of prizes won during the just concluded 2011 cricket season, along with the recognition of past presidents.

Former West Indies player Basil Butcher is the featured speaker, with Don Bobb as master of ceremonies. (RT)
