Stubbs Village Football Competition nears Quarter Finals

The South East Development (SEDI) Inc. Inter Village Football Competition heads to its Quarter Finals stage, starting this weekend at the competition’s venue, the Stubbs Playing Field.{{more}}

The quarter finals will be a play off among six of the seven teams which participated in the preliminary round, divided into two groups. All, but Enhams Playing It Safe, will try to advance to the semi finals.

To be stashed in Group A will be the first, second and fifth placed teams; with the second, fourth and sixth placed teams battling for the semi final berth, in which two teams from each group will emerge. From the quarter finals, the fifth and sixth placed teams will exit the competition.

Last Monday, the two previous unbeaten teams, Stubbs Bridge Boys and KQ Stubbs Mavericks, engaged each other for the top spot.

In the end, it took a second half strike by Rason Andrews to send Bridge Boys to their fifth straight win and to the top of the standings.

The Stubbs Inter Village Football Competition is part of the revival thrust being undertaken by SEDI inc. to have sporting events back in the south east belt.

The Football competition, which is mainly for villages within the belt, allows for each team to have two guest players.

Organisers told SEARCHLIGHT that when the competition takes root, other restrictions will be placed on the participation of players.

Following the Football Competition, SEDI will next month commence its Netball Competition. (RT)
