James relegated to Windwards reserves

Vincentian senior team captain Lindon James could only find himself among the reserves, in the Windwards team named for the Regional Super50 Limited Overs Competition set for Guyana next month.{{more}}

James topscored with 64 in a losing effort against the Leewards in the semi-finals, having only played two matches. He did not bat in the other match he played against Trinidad and Tobago.

But what is baffling is the inclusion of Craig Emmanuel, whose two innings last year against Jamaica and the Combined Campuses and Colleges netted no runs.

Two Vincentians, Hyron Shallow, a right-handed batsman and Kenroy Peters, a left-arm medium fast bowler, however, made the final cut.

The team will be led by left-handed opening batsman Devon Smith, and also includes his countrymen, Andre Fletcher, Denis George and Nelon Pascal.

Fletcher will do the glove work, and is one of the team’s lead batsmen, while George is a left-arm orthodox spin bowler and Pascal, a fast bowler.

The Windwards 2011 four-day championships captain Liam Sebastian and middle order batsman Kevin James, are the two Dominicans who made the team.

St. Lucia got the most picks in right-handed batsmen Keddy Lesporis, Johnson Charles, and Craig Emmanuel. Xavier Gabriel, a right-arm medium pacer, Garey Mathurin, a slow left-arm orthodox bowler, and Dalton Polius, a right-arm off-break bowler.

Charles and Mathurin received a West Indies call up to tour England for the two T/20 Internationals against England.

Others in the reserves are Vincentians Kesrick Williams and Atticus Browne, Grenadian Tade Carmichael, St. Lucian Alex Antoine and Dominican Vincent Lewis.

Williams is a right-arm fast bowler; Browne is a left-handed opening batsman; Carmichael and Antoine are right-handed batsmen; and Lewis is a left-arm medium pacer.

Barbados and the Leeward Islands are reigning joint winners of the 50-over tournament after a tied final in Jamaica last year.(RT)
