Up and down weekend for Cavaliers in BCL

Cavaliers, one of four Vincentian Cricket clubs in the Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) had an up and down run, last weekend.

Playing against Wanderers on Saturday, Cavaliers batted first and made 138 all out in 27.1 overs.{{more}}

Peter Haywood hit a topscore of 30. When Wanderers batted, they were dismissed for 97 in 20.4 overs. Cavaliers bowling was led by former St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies fast bowler, Cameron Cuffy, and Ezekiel Williams, who both took 3 for 24, and Timothy Warner, with 3 for 29.

But the tale was different on Sunday versus Jinnah, who batted first and posted 185 all out in 30 overs. Mike Providence was Cavaliers lead bowler with 2 for 40.

Cavaliers in reply, succumbed for 137 all out in 24.5 overs. Albert Tesheira hit a topscore of 32.

Jinnah was taking revenge for their defeat the previous day from another Vincentian team, Middlesex.

Jinnah had taken first strike and posted 194 for 9 from 35 overs. Irfan Iqbal hit 46, Jahanzeb Alam 44 and Asim Pervaiz 42. Bowling for Middlesex, Rod Michael took 2 for 22, Andre Kirton 2 for 34 and Mark Audain 2 for 38.

Middlesex replied with 189 for 8 from 35 overs. Donwell Hector hit 40; Rod Michael 29, Mark Audain 20 and Joseph Ledwrige 19 not out. Bowling for Jinnah, left arm chinaman spinner Noman Hassan bagged 4 for 12.

Panthers stopped Queenbury, also of Vincentian origin, by 106 runs. Panthers made 239 for a, then dismissed Queenbury for 133.

On Saturday, Shaheen plays Middlesex at Marine Park C. while on Sunday sees the start of the Play off phase of the competition. (RT)
