Technical Director and Head Coach of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team Vincy Heat, Colwyn Rowe, is of the opinion that his charges have improved since he took over the job in January this year.{{more}}

Rowe made this assessment in a post-match conference last Sunday afternoon at the Players Pavilion at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, following the Group E World Cup Qualifier versus Grenada, in which the home team triumphed two one.

Rowe said he was happy with his young team’s progress over time and that he sees no need to look outside of St. Vincent and the Grenadines for others, as they may not be able to fit into his scheme of things.

Rowe, an Englishman, is big on pre-match camps, and stated that overseas professionals are unable to be away from their clubs for an extended period.

In assessing last Sunday’s performance, Rowe said that his charges had the better of the match, but gave away the ball too much.

Rowe said his team was also guilty of missing too many of the opportunities which they created.

Rowe said despite the drawbacks, he was happy with the team’s performance, as “We have worked hard and deserved the win.”

The win by St. Vincent and the Grenadines condemned Grenada to being the only team in the group which is without a point.

Grenada’s Coach Franklyn Simpson was magnanimous in defeat as he congratulated the victors, but said his players committed too many unforced errors in the match. However, he took heart that in the last 15 to 20 minutes, his team showed signs of getting to where they wanted to be.

“We will only get better,” said Simpson, as he looks ahead to his team’s next encounter in Belize on October 7. The Belizeans defeated Grenada 3-0 on September 2, in St. Georges, Grenada .

Simpson said that his team is also in transition, as several of the stalwart players have exited national representation, making way for new faces.

For Simpson, their campaign is not over, as they can still pick up points on the way.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines hosts Guatemala here on Friday, October 7.

Guatemala leads the group with two wins; a 4-0 win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines and a 2-1 triumph over Belize.(RT)
