West Indies women repeat in T/20 series
The West Indies women clinched the T/20 series 3-1 last Sunday evening at the National Stadium in Providence in Guyana in dramatic fashion.{{more}}
Pakistan batted first and made 72 for 9 from their 20 overs. Shanel Daley collected 3 for 9 and Anisa Mohammed 2 for 24. Qanita Jalil topscored with 15.
West Indies replied with 72 all out, also off their 20 overs, dismissed off the last ball, as the match ended in a tie.
Shanel Daley topscored with 28. Bowling for the visitors, Sana Mir took 3 for 1, Sadia Yousuf 2 for 11, and Qanita Jalil 2 for 13.
This sent the match into the eliminator over, the Super over. The West Indies made 10 for 1, and then restricted Pakistan to 7 for 1, bowled by Shanel Daley, who was later named Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
It was a repeat of the ODI Series which preceded the T/20 contests, with the West Indies winning matches one, two and four, and Pakistan match three in both formats.
Pakistan had rebounded in match three, the first of the two historic day/night matches last Saturday evening.
The home team got to 115 for 5 from their 20 overs. Vice Captain Stafanie Taylor struck 48, before retiring hurt with an asthma attack, when the West Indies was going well at 91 for 2. Brittney Cooper was the next best with 28, as Sadia Youssuf took 3 for 25.
But the Pakistanis, as they did in the third of the ODIâs, dug deep. Bismah Maroof 43 not out and Javeria Khan 37, shared in 83 run partnership for the fifth wicket, which guided their team to the five-wicket win.
The duo excavated their team, as they came together with their team stuttering at 32 for 4. Daley was the West Indiesâ best bowler with 3 for 17.
The regional women, after disposing of their Pakistanis opponents 3-1 in the One Day Series here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, won both T/20 matches at Grenadaâs Progress Park, last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Going into last Wednesdayâs match, after a nervy one-run triumph on Tuesday, the West Indies fared better, winning by four wickets.
The visitors posted 65 all out from 18.5 overs. It was the Pakistanisâ nemesis Anisa Mohammed, the Player of the One Day Series, who was again the lead bowler for the hosts, with 4 for 9. Pearlina Etienne took 2 for 9. Qanita Jalil, with 19, was the topscorer.
Stacy Ann King, with 32 not out, guided the West Indies to 66 for 6 in 18.5 overs.
On Tuesday, in a rain affected match, the West Indies made 90 for 8 from 18 overs, with Stafanie Taylor making 24, Stacy Ann King 16 and Deandra Dottin 13, which included two sixes.
With the Duckworth/ Lewis method in effect, Pakistan then required the revised target of 58 in 11 overs, but could only reach 56 for 3. (RT)
