Windies Women win ODI Series 3-1

West Indies Women claimed the four match One Day International Development Series with Pakistan, 3-1, last Saturday, here at the Arnos Vale Playing Field with a 57-run win.{{more}}

Pakistan was chasing down a revised target of 148 from 45 overs, after some indecision by the ground staff resulted in a portion of the outfield close to the pitch getting wet. This delayed play, and required umpires Goaland Greaves and Lennox Abraham to refer to the Duckworth/ Lewis System.

It was again the mesmerising spin of Anisa Mohammed, who finished with 4 for 17, which undermined the visitors’ response, as they folded for 97 in 42.1 overs.

Mohammed earned herself the Player of the Match prize, as she had earlier injected life into the West Indies batting, with 25 not out.

The Trinidadian was also named Player of the Series, for her 14 wickets for 50 runs.

Mohammed had figures of 5 for 5, 5 for 7 and 0 for 21, respectively, in the three matches which preceded last Saturday’s.

In closing out the series, left-armer spinner Shanel Daley claimed 2 for 5, Stafanie Taylor 2 for 7 and Pearl Etienne 2 for 12, were the back -ups to Mohammed. Javeria Khan, at the top of the order, made a topscore of 20.

West Indies, batting first, had posted 154 for 8 from their 50 overs, but it was a revival of sorts.

From a 52-run opening stand between Juliana Nero 29 and Stafanie Taylor 25, the West Indies capitulated to 81 for 6, before the efforts of Shaquana Quintyne, who was run out for 23, and Mohammed recovered their fortunes.

Pakistan came into the match, looking to square the series, after they had rebounded in match three last Thursday to win by three wickets.

Set 93 to win, the Pakistanis obliged for the loss of seven wickets. Player of the Match Bismah Maroof made 41 not out, which guided them to their only victory on the Vincentian leg of their Caribbean tour.

Bowling for the West Indies, Shanel Daley took 2 for 13 and Tremayne Smartt 2 for 15.

West Indies had batted first and stopped at 92 from 38 overs. Captain Merissa Aguilleira stroked 34, to be the topscorer.

Off-spinner Nida Dar snared 4 for 16 and leg-spinner Samir Mir 3 for 17, were incisive as the West Indies batting fell away.

Both teams turn their attention to the Twenty20 International leg of the tour beginning today, Tuesday in Grenada at Progress Park .The second T/20 will also be staged at Progress Park tomorrow, Wednesday.

The series will climax in Guyana on Saturday and Sunday with the third and fourth T/20’s which will be day/night affairs. (RT)
