Curtains come down on SVG Summer Squash Programme

St. Vincent and the Grenadines saw the culmination of its Summer Squash Camp Programs last week with around 60 children enjoying the physical training and technical aspects of the game.{{more}} The Squash Camps were conducted by former Coach of the Year and 10-year undefeated National Champion James Bentick, who was assisted by Kevin Hannaway, a former Caribbean Junior Champion, and present Caribbean Team Champion for 2011.

Bentick expressed that the camps are set up not just for the purpose of learning the game of squash, but to teach the children about the benefits of regular exercise and the importance of healthier eating habits. Bentick went on to lament that the children won various prizes during the camp, which is a tool used to encourage better performance. All the children received t-shirts and certificates to confirm participation and completion of the camp.

The camps were supported and sponsored by two companies in the private sector, Sea Operations SVG Limited and General and Maritime Agencies Limited. Bentick said: ‘Without these sponsors, events such as these could not take place’. He also encouraged other businesses to assist in helping various sporting organizations around the nation, as events such as these are extremely beneficial to the development of our youth.

Bentick noted that the Saturday Junior Squash Program, which has run for the past 10 years and has produced countless numbers of Junior Caribbean Squash Champions, will commence on September 10, 2011.

Bentick thanks the sponsors and looks forward to working with them again in the future.
