Top Bequia Twenty/20 cricketers rewarded

The top performers in the Hairoun Beer Bequia Twenty/20 Cricket Competition were rewarded last Sunday at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony at the pavilion at the Clive Tannis Playing Field.{{more}}

The top performer in the Competition was former St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-19 opening batsman Neil Baptiste, of Bequia Express West Side Knockers, who was named the Player of the Competition.

Baptiste scored 513 runs and captured 12 wickets, in a show of all round ability.

Shem Browne, of Knights Trading Aussies, was the highest individual scorer, with an innings of 210 not out.

Browne, who made his St. Vincent and the Grenadines senior debut to the Windwards T/20 tournament in Dominica, lashed his historic innings against D’ Graduates.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines middle order batsman Hyron Shallow, of Admiralty Transport Youth Combine, scored the most runs, 519, and former Under-19 St. Vincent and the Grenadines leg spinner Jenry Ollivierre, also of Youth Combine, was the top wicket taker, with 13 scalps .

The most wickets in a match were taken by Twan Richards, of Manicou, versus South Side United, and Xavier John, of Courts More Faith Combined Youths, against West Side Knockers.

Both took 5 for 18 and shared the accolade.

Cosmus Hackshaw, of West Side Knockers, was adjudged the best wicket keeper. Dean Browne was adjudged Player of the Final for his 79 and 3 for 34, in last Sunday’s final against Youth Combine.

Each of the nine competing teams had a player named its Most Valuable Player.

Securing it for the 2011 winners Knights Trading Aussies was Dean Browne, with Hyron Shallow taking the award for Youth Combine.

West Side Knockers’ recipient was Neil Baptiste; Combined Youths – Adinol Richards, Carib Stars – Shirlon Pompey, Port Elizabeth – Burton Forde, Manicou – Cleus Cato and South Side United – Ken Compton complete the recipients.(RT)
