Fair results from team OECS

A comparatively weak OECS Girls Team served up a creditable performance in the Team Competition of the Digicel Junior Caribbean Squash Championships 2011 in Guyana.{{more}} They were drawn in Pool B with Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. U 13 Thandi Myers (11-2,11-4,11-3) and U15 Demi Ollivierre (9-11,13-11,7-11,13-11,11-5) secured wins in the 2-3 encounter with Trinidad. Jamaica executed a 5-0 drumming as the OECS girls were no match in this encounter. Barbados served up a 4-1 win to the girls. The girls put forward a better showing in the 5th place play off when they defeated Bermuda 3-2 (Myers lost 3-11,10-12,6-11 and Ollivierre won 11-4, 11-4, 10-12, 11-3) . They went on to lose 2-3 against Barbados (Ollivierre lost 6-11, 4-11,9-11; Myers lost 1-11,10-12,5-11). The team finished in sixth place.

On the other hand, the OECS Boys Team was expected to improve on last years 4th place. This was not to be as the team ended in 5th place.

Drawn in Pool A with Guyana, Bermuda and Bahamas, the boys secured 3rd place with a convincing 5-0 win over Bahamas. Doyle (11-2,11-9,11-7) and Snagg (11-5.11-8.11-9) secured the wins in the 2-3 lost against Bermuda and Snagg (11-1,11-5,11-3) and Hannaway (11-4.14-12,6-11,11-6) secured the wins in the same score line against Guyana. This placed the team in the fifth place play off which they easily won brushing aside both Cayman (Hannaway, Snagg, Joseph and Viville) and Barbados (Hannaway, Snagg, Joseph and Wilson) 4-1.
