Sion Hill Brownies out on top

The final Brownie sports was held on Thursday, July 7, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field. Participating were the Number 12 Kingstown Preparatory, 1st Questelles, 1st Spring Village, 1st Sandy Bay and 1st Sion Hill Brownie packs.{{more}}

Sion Hill emerged winners with sixty-two points, second was Questelles with fifty-three points and third Sandy Bay with fifty points. Sion Hill received the René Baptiste trophy, and a first prize donated by Marva Cato-Robinson. Spring Village received the prize donated by Althea Commissiong, Chief Commissioner, for the best dressed team. Second place was donated by Mrs. Commissiong-James of Questelles, and third prize was donated by Mrs. Sardine, a guider of the Kingstown Government School.

The Brownies participated in eleven events. These were the 60 metre race, 100 metre race, 4 x 100 metre, needle and thread, three-legged race, sack race, lime and spoon, obstacle race, wheelbarrow race, bean bag and hoopla.

In the 60 metre race, first was Questelles, second Sandy Bay and third Sion Hill. In the 100 metre, first was Sion Hill, second Sandy Bay and third Questelles. In the 4 x 100 race, first was Sion Hill, second Sandy Bay, third Questelles. In the Needle and thread, first was Kingstown Preparatory, second Sandy Bay and third Questelles. Three legged race: first Sion Hill, second Sandy Bay, third Kingstown Preparatory. Sack race: first Sandy Bay, second Questelles and third Sion Hill. Lime and spoon: first Kingstown Preparatory, second Questelles, third Sion Hill. Obstacle race: first Sandy Bay, second Sion Hill and third Spring Village. Wheelbarrow: first Sion Hill, second Sandy Bay and third Questelles. Bean bag: first Sion Hill, second Questelles, third Spring Village. Hoopla: first Questelles, second Sion Hill and third Sandy Bay.

Present were Althea Commissiong, Chief Commissioner and Jacqueline Soso-Vincent, Brownie Commissioner who both made brief remarks. Carol Delves and Heather Stewart, both District Commissioners, also attended the meet.
