SVG loses on first innings versus Dominica
St. Vincent and the Grenadines lost on first innings to Dominica in their first match of their two-day Windward Islands Under-19 Cricket Competition being played in St. Lucia.{{more}}
Dominica batted first and made 133. Ray Jordan led the Vincentian bowling attack with 4 for 29, Shaquille Browne took 3 for 19, and Captain Asif Hooper, 2 for 14.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines, after being 84 for 3, capitulated to 109 all out at the Mindoo Phillip Playing Field.
Sunil Ambris led the way with 42, and Deron Greaves hit 36. Bowling for Dominica, Kaveem Hodge snared 5 for 34, Derrick Peter, 3 for 17, and Byron Joseph, 2 for 24.
Batting a second time, Dominica declared at 159 for 9, with Kaveem Hodge making 47, Deon Benjamin, 42, and Jelani Robinson, 28. Teran Simon had bowling figures of 4 for 20, Kentish Phillips, 3 for 38, and Asif Hooper, 2 for 34.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines was 25 for 3 at the close.
In the other match, defending champions St. Lucia blasted Grenada by an innings and 35 runs. St. Lucia, led by Arwin Edwardsâ 92, Jamal James, 80, made 272 for 6 declared.
Bowling for Grenada, Odel Beggs took 2 for 55.
Grenada responded with 100. Alvinus was St. Luciaâs lead bowler with 6 for 14 and Canis Richardson 2 for 11.
Grenada, following on, was dismissed for 137. Casimir Thomas topscored with 32 and Hollis Blair hit 28. Bronte Bess with 3 for 19, and Larry Edwards, 2 for 48, were the most successful bowlers for the hosts.
The second round of matches was set to begin yesterday, Thursday, with St. Vincent and the Grenadines facing St. Lucia and Grenada taking on Dominica.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines will have to do without their most experienced player Sunil Ambris, who will be on the West Indies Under-19 team on a four match tour of the USA.
Dominica also loses Kaveem Hodge to that North American sojourn. (RT)
