National Olympic Committee to hold Communication workshop

The National Olympic Committee (NOC), in its continuing effort to build capacity, will hold a two-day Communication workshop, this Wednesday and Thursday, June 22 to 23.{{more}}

The workshop will be held at the Xpert Computer Centre Conference Room, at the top floor of the Music Center Building, Grenville Street.

The workshop, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, targets this country’s elite athletes as well as Public Relation Officers of national sporting associations and sports journalists.

Several of this country’s top athletes, among them, field athlete Adonson Shallow and middle distance runner Kineke Alexander, are expected to be part the two-day workshop.

The objective of exercise is mainly to enhance the way in which top athletes engage the media or respond to the media.

The workshop which will be conducted by Trinidadian Peter Andrews, has among its topics Self-Esteem, Personal Self Inventory, Vales Clarification, Shaping Attitude, Personal and Professional Image, Positive Communication, Etiquette and Protocol and Transformation and Change.

Participants will be drawing on Andrews’ experience, as he has been a Communication and Customer Service Consultant and Trainer in private practice since 1988, prior to which he worked as a print and television journalist and public relations practitioner.

As a facilitator, Andrews has trained thousands of workers in large and small companies, Government Ministries, Local Government agencies, Credit Unions and voluntary organizations, in areas such as Leadership Skills, Communication Skills, Attitudinal Development, Assertiveness, Life Skills, Etiquette and Customer Service.

He holds a B.A. (Hons.) in History and Social Sciences and a Diploma in Mass Communication, and is a Certified Customer Service Trainer and Life Skills Facilitator. (RT)
