The age categories being contested are the Under-6, Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12, for both boys and girls. Onike Spann will be the Tournament Director and Kyle Albert, the Tournament Referee.

President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association Anthony Mc Kenzie extended congratulations to the Grassroot Tennis Club on its effort to bring Tennis to the masses.

“This is one of the largest programmes, if not the largest programme for Junior Tennis in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and we applaud all the continuing efforts by Grassroot in getting you guys out there and getting the rackets in your hands and having you hit the ball,” Mc Kenzie said.

The tennis head also had some advice for the budding players.

“Not everyone wins, but it is the way you play the game, and make that when you are out there and you are playing, you respect your opponent, play fairly and make sure you do the right things at home, at school and in life in general, and on the Tennis court, everything is based on fair play and respect for one another”, Mc Kenzie stated.

“We look forward to some of you getting scholarships in six to eight years, being educated abroad via tennis scholarships,” said Mc Kenzie, as he challenged the young tennis players.

The Easter Tennis Tournament is the second being hosted by Grassroot. Last December, GTC hosted a Junior Christmas Tournament, which was the first since the club set up operations in February last year.

It is expected that the 2012 GTC Easter Tennis Tournament will be extended to incorporate Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 categories.

The Easter Junior Tournament concludes this Saturday with the Closing and Presentation Ceremony. (RT)
