Junior Squash contingent heads to Dominica

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be sending a mixture of experienced and emerging Junior Squash players to the 2011 OECS Junior Squash Championships, which take place in Dominica from April 1 to 3.{{more}}

Experienced players Kevin Hannaway and Jules Snagg head the Boys Under-19. Also in that age group is Romario Constance.

Reigning Caribbean Boys Under-13 champion Jason Doyle is also making the trip northwards, along with Sebastian Cyrus, Kai Bentick, Omari Wilson and Rashid Constance.

The females selected are Thandi Myers, Demi Ollivierre and Gianna Miller- Alexander.

All the selectees featured highly on the honours roll when the 2011 Junior Nationals concluded last Saturday afternoon at the National Squash Facility at Paul’s Avenue.

Hannaway beat Snagg en route to taking the Boys Under-19 Singles title.

Doyle showed his superiority, as he easily took the Boys Under-15 Advanced group, with Cyrus triumphing in the Boys Under-13 category.

Bentick beat Rashid Constance to win the Boys Under-11, and Wilson emerged winner of the Boys Under-15 play off. Wilson was also awarded the Most Improved Player title.

Myers was first in the Girls Under-13 play off, with Miller-Alexander getting past Ollivierre to cop the Girls’ Intermediate crown.

The other title that was decided saw Lauryn Doyle winning the Girls Beginners, while Maurice Robertson got the accolade for his sportsmanship.

The Vincentian contingent, whose trip will be part sponsored by Western Union and Bickles, has as its Coach James Bentick.

Ollivierre, Miller- Alexander, Hannaway, Doyle, Snagg and Romario Constance all made the OECS team to last year’s Junior Caribbean championships which were staged in the Cayman Islands. (RT)
