Making the presentation was Technical Director of the SVGTTA Khalique Bailey, who handed over the equipment to Osbourne Browne, Manager of the National Sports Council, who is also a resident of the area.

Browne welcomed the donation of the Table Tennis equipment, stating that it will signal the return of Table Tennis to the vibrant sporting community.

The board will be housed in the pavilion at the Sion Hill hard court.

Browne disclosed that Joseph “Jose” Carrington, a former national player, has been charged with the responsibility of conducting coaching sessions with persons wishing to learn the sport.

He said that with the sport getting a restart, new players as well as old ones will develop an interest in the sport.

Browne named several accomplished Table Tennis players who have emerged from the bowels of the Sion Hill community. Among them are Carrington, Verrol Jeffers, Cyril “Scorcher” Thomas, Glenford Prescott, Kirk Williams and Chadwick Carrington.

Browne revealed that Table Tennis will be an integral part of the All Day Sports Festival planned for Monday, March 14, at the said Sion Hill Village hard court.

Among the events which will held on that day are a Round the Village Road race, Dominoes Competition, Pedro Competition and other board games. (RT)
