Windwards loses opener

The Windward Islands failed to capitalise on a small first innings lead and was sent crashing to a 26-run defeat by the Combined Campuses and Colleges(CCC) in their opening fixture of the West Indies Cricket Board(WICB) four-day regional competition.{{more}}

It took the CCC less than three days to record the win at the 3W’s Oval in Barbados, on Sunday.

Set 179, for full points, the Windwards’ batting crashed to 145 all out. Andre Fletcher made 35 and Liam Sebastian struck 27.

The soft underbelly of the Windwards’ batting was undermined by Man of the Match Nkrumah Bonner, who snared 5 for 26; Kavesh Kantasighn took 3 for 37 and Ryan Austin 2 for 46.

Batting first, the CCC posted 131. Sebastian was the lead bowler for the Windwards with 3 for 17, with Kenroy Peters taking 2 for 21 and Kieron Cottoy 2 for 30.

In response, the Windwards limped to 174. Keddy Lesporis scored 41 and Andre Fletcher 30.

Ryan Austin took 4 for 69 , Nkrumah Bonner 2 for 14 and Kavesh Kantasingh 2 for 49.

In the CCC’s second innings, they made 221. Kyle Corbin made 57, Ramon Reifer 44 and Romel Currency 35.

Gairy Mathurin had figures of 3 for 31; Sebastian 3 for 44 and Nelon Pascal 2 for 65.

The Windwards hosts Jamaica in their second match, which starts this Friday at the Grenada National Stadium. (RT)
