Slater re-elected as Squash head

Newly re-elected President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association, Dr. Sherian Slater, has as her organisation’s main focus for the next twelve months the re-commencement of the Schools’ Squash Competition.{{more}}

Slater made this known to SEARCHLIGHT soon after being re-elected last Tuesday afternoon at the Association’s Annual General Meeting held at the National Lotteries Authority Squash Courts in Paul’s Avenue.

“We have not had that competition for sometime now and we are going to work on it,” the Squash President said.

Slater said she believes the absence of the schools’ competition accounts for the fall off in the participation of females in the sport.

“We need to get more females in the sport,” she added.

Slater said that also in the upcoming months, her Association will continue its focus on the youths, and will send a team to the OECS Championships set for Dominica.

Slater is optimistic that the St. Vincent and the Grenadines team will do well despite several of the key players having external examinations around the time of the championships.

In reflecting on her last year as head of the Association, Slater identified the hosting of the Caribbean Area Squash Association Senior Championships last August as the highlight of her organisation’s stewardship.

Slater said that the wide participation, especially from the north of the Caribbean chain, was encouraging.

She said with this year’s championships being staged in the Cayman Islands, the OECS will be making a greater effort to be part of it, despite the relatively high cost of travel and other expenses.

Anne Millar is the SVGSA’s Vice President, and Janice Glasgow is the Treasurer. The Assistant Treasurer is Tessa King.

Deidre Myers is the Association’s Secretary and the Public Relations Officer is Janine Doyle.

The Committee Members are Greta Primus, Sheryl Franklyn and Collin Franklyn. Bradley Glasgow is the Junior representative on the Executive. (RT)
