Checkers wins CADO Small Goal Football Competition

Checkers United was crowned champions with a narrow 3-2 win over Full Force of Choppins, in the annual New Year’s Day Calliaqua Area Development Organization (CADO) Five -A-Side Small Goal Competition, on Sunday, January 2, at the Culture Pot Square in Calliaqua.{{more}}

The competition which was scheduled for New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1, had to be postponed because of early morning showers.

Checkers’ goals came from Reginald Payne and Renson Haynes. Kenroy Joseph and Desmond Samuel netted the goals for Full Force.

Only three of the scheduled eight teams took part in this year’s competition, which was watched by an attractive crowd. The 2010 champion Madrid opted out of this year’s competition.

Checkers United pocketed $100 and a trophy, for winning, while Full Force received $50 and a trophy, compliments sponsors Joel Toney and Earl Halbich of Baleine Tours.

Kens Dougan won the 50 and over penalty shoot-out, while Garfield Haywood was voted the top performer in the open category.

Tadick Morgan won the Under-15 open category, while Kyler Ottley won in the Under-15 female category.
