But it was Mayers who took the prestigious award of Athlete of the Year, 2010 at the ceremony which was held last Saturday afternoon at Frenches House, Kingstown.

Mayers, on the strength of her gold medal win at the Commonwealth Games in India in October, tipped the balance in her favour.

Ballantyne, as usual, continued his exploits on the Caribbean roads, as well as during a stint in London, England.

Also copping an award was Yurnic Nanton, who was adjudged the Junior Male Athlete, as he returned good performances at the Windward Islands School Games and the various national Track and Field Championships and during the recently concluded Road Racing season.

The Junior Female Athlete was again Nadia Delpesche, who like Nanton carried a similar profile during the last twelve months.

The Grassroots Talent Identification Athlete of the Year was Brendon Matthews, with Lennox Spence being rewarded as the Most Promising Athlete.

Durable road athlete Caswin Prince was adjudged the Volunteer of the Year for his commitment to Athletics in the North Leeward area.

Multi talented Coach Godfrey Harry was awarded for being the Coach of the Year, with Woodrow Williams, the Technical Official of the Year.

X-Cel, known more in local circles for Tennis, and in its first year in Track and Field, emerged as the Club of the Year, nipping last year’s winners, X-Ceed Sports Club.

The X-Ceed pair of Moeth Gaymes and Jasmine Providence were the Victor and Victrix Ludurom, respectively, at the Mustique Company National Club Championships.

X- Ceed emerged winners of the championships. (RT)
