Athletes warm up for Relay Classics

Last Saturday, many of this country’s budding athletes as well as the seasoned ones took to the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field to be part of the Relay Classics put on by Team Athletics SVG.{{more}}

A forerunner to the regular fixtured event normally held in February each year, Saturday’s event saw mainly participation from the secondary schools.

In the end, though, it was the X-Cel Club which totalled 58 points that distanced themselves from the other participating teams.

Second was the Thomas Saunders Secondary with 24 points, and third, the St. Vincent Grammar School.

Bishop’s College Kingstown recorded 10 points, so, too, did the Bishop’s College female team.

In the age groups, it was the Thomas Saunders Secondary males, whose 24 points led the pack, with the St. Vincent Grammar School finishing with 16 points, and the Bishop’s College Kingstown, 12 points.

In the Open category, IT DAT scored 16 points, and Bishop’s College Kingstown, 12.

The St. Vincent Grammar School ended on 14 points in the Under-14 male segment.

The 4x300m, the 4x600m and the Medley were some of the major races, which occupied the athletes’ attention for the period of the classics.

With bragging rights gained, the real deal will come off in February 2011, when greater participation is expected, as it will come smack in the schools’ second term Athletics programme. (RT)
