Simple Boys, Novice take NLA TBPO titles

Ken’s Plumbing and Associates Simple Boys and CGM Novice shared the spotlight when the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation Softball Cricket Competition closed last Sunday, at the Dauphine Playing Field.{{more}}

Simple Boys walked away with the League competition, while Novice retained the 10/10 title.

In the 10/10 final, which was reset to Sunday, having been affected by rain on Saturday, Novice scored an eight-wicket triumph over Simple Boys.

Simple Boys posted 82 for 6 off their 10 overs. Stein Joseph hit 21, so too did Nicos Davis, and Elric Morris contributed 16.

Bowling for Novice, Norlan Williams took 3 for 16, and Trevor Bute 2 for 10.

Novice, in reply, got to 84 for 2 with a ball to spare. Elton Williams cracked 48 not out, sparked by 5 sixes and 3 fours.

Novice gained $ 650 and Simple Boys $450.

But Simple Boys made amends in the league final that followed.

RSVG Police were not their usual imposing unit, and got to 103 all out. Rolando Wright made 26 and Elmore Alexander 17. Bowling for Simple Boys, Stein Joseph bagged 5 for 37, Casmond Walters and Elric Morris both had figures of 2 for 15.

Walters then hit a topscore of 38, including 4 sixes; Morris 30, dotted with 3 fours and 2 sixes and, Joseph 24 not out, laced with 3 sixes, saw Simple Boys to 104 for 7, and the Challenge trophy, a replica, and $1500.

Renford Jack 3 for 16 and Malcolm Alexander 2 for 22, were the main wicket takers for the lawmen, who were rewarded with $750.

Simple Boys’ Stein Joseph was adjudged as Player of the Final, and collected $50.

Collecting the Best Bowler award was Street Fighters’ James De Freitas, who had 12 wickets at the cost of 14 runs. De Freitas pocketed $100.

The batsman with the highest aggregate of runs was Simple Boys’ Desron Maloney, who scored 227. He also was one of two centurions. Maloney collected $100 each for the two accolades, with Shem Browne of Owia, likewise rewarded for his triple figures score.

Zonal winners, Simple Boys, Novice, Street Fighters and Pine Hill Dairy Clinchers all added $150 each to their kitty.

Minister of State in the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Youth, Sports, etc. Ces Mc Kie, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Ashford Wood, as well as Secretary Junior Bacchus, and Manager of Corea’s Food Division, who sponsored the innovative Smirnoff Pairs Domino competition, Jimmy Forde, gave brief remarks at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony.

Twenty-three teams participated in this year’s competition. (RT)
