Windwards Senior Cricket Competition extended

The 2010 Senior Windward Islands Cricket Competition, which will be played in Grenada from this Friday, December 3, will see a return to the three days duration as it was in previous years.{{more}}

The experimental change comes after a few years of two-day tournaments, in which a total of 105 overs had to be bowled.

Critics complained that two days were insufficient if the Windwards Islands Cricket Board wanted to develop the sport in the four islands. However, the policy makers were vindicated as several of the matches in the recent past were decided with outright results, within the two-day period.

Also, when the competition kicks off this Friday, defending champion St. Vincent and the Grenadines will meet Grenada in Carriacou, in what local cricket pundits are saying could be a history-making event for the dependent isle of Grenada.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will then meet St. Lucia, December 7-9, before facing Dominica, December 11- 13.

The Vincentian selectors have kept faith with a tried and tested team, and only found space in the 13-member squad that will travel to Grenada for one newcomer, teenaged batsman Sunil Ambris.

Linden James will again lead the team, which also includes Atticus Browne, Salvan Browne, Donwell Hector, Wayne Harper, Hyron Shallow, Dellorn Johnson, Kenroy Peters, Kesrick Williams, Keiron Cottoy, Deighton Butler and Alston Bobb.

Selected in the reserves are Norlan Williams, Dyke Cato, Kishore Shallow, Lauron Francois, and Marvin Small.

The team’s coach is former St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies fast bowler, Nixon Mc Lean. The team will be managed by another former St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards player, off spinner, Irvin Warrican. (RT)
