Marksman takes Managers’ Table Tennis Title

Terrrance Marksman, representing the Owia Fisheries Complex, walked away with the title of champion of the Third Eye Security Managers’ Table Tennis Competition, when the final was staged last Saturday night at the AVESCO Club House at Arnos Vale.{{more}}

In the competition, held under the aegis of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association (SVGTTA), Marksman beat Dougal Byron Cox of Cox and Richards Customs and Shipping Agency, 11-8, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8.

Marksman first had to get past Davon Cato of Excel Media in the semi-final. He defeated Cato 11-6, 11-4, 11-5, while Byron Cox travelled an easier route, as his intended opponent in the semi final, Walter Richards of Richie’s Trucking, did not show up for their meeting.

Last Saturday night also saw the completion of the Third Eye Security Firms and Industrial Team Competition.

And, rising to the top was Eye Security Service, leaving Excel Media to take the second spot and the Hairoun Brewery, third.

Third Eye triumphed in the final 3: 2, in the best of five, with the players playing the best of seven games. Third Eye won 4:2, 2:4, 0:4, 4:2, 4:1

Speaking at the closing ceremony President of the SVGTTA Alonzo Primus thanked the sponsors for committing their support and sponsorship of the competition.

Manager of Third Eye Security SVG, Harvey Graham, who also was an active participant in the competition, expressed his pleasure with the level of the games and encouraged those gathered to keep the game alive and well.

These competitions were all in keeping with the SVGTTA Executive mandate, to keep the sport alive in all sectors of the community.

Technical Director of the SVGTTA Khalique Bailey told SEARCHLIGHT at the finals that the association will soon roll out a comprehensive programme aimed at taking the sport at another level.

Bailey, who is fresh from an extensive training course in the USA, said that the planned progamme will surely offer long-term benefits to the sport of Table Tennis here.

With the Managers’ and Firms’ competitions out of the way Secretary of the SVGTTA, Paul Velox, indicated that his Executive is preparing also to get the national championships under way, as well as getting the grassroots programme more solidified with specific attention to the rural communities.
