This was disclosed by Chairman of the North-East Football League Trevor Huggins, at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony of the 2010 National Lotteries Authority North-East Football League on Sunday, November 14.

He said the facility will be lit.

Huggins noted that the lighting of the playing field is one of several plans to enhance the main sporting arena in the North Windward constituency.

He reiterated to SEARCHLIGHT plans to construct a children’s playground, which will be located on the southern end of the playing field.

This will be done in partnership with Tidland Charity Fund of Florida, USA.

The building of a bleacher on the western side and the construction of dressing rooms are also plans that are in the pipeline to create further development.

The Chili Playing Field was one of several projects undertaken by the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

Under the SIF initiative, the surface of the field was grassed and a perimeter fence erected.

Huggins told SEARCHLIGHT that with the facility being fenced, the league organizers were assured of a steady income, since the competition opened on August 29.

He mentioned that due to funds being collected at the gates as well as proceeds from the bar, his organization is in a better position to assist with the development of the community.

Huggins said that they were able to get two street children back in school, and are currently assisting them with their day-to-day school expenses.

At the closing ceremony, the league donated EC$1,000 to kidney patient Kenrick Cyrus, a resident of the area, who has to travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a regular basis for dialysis treatment.

Financial assistance was also granted to three players who suffered injuries during the league competition.

Huggins said his organization will also be making a donation to Marion House soon. (RT)
